That was some football game last night, wasn’t it? Sorry, I’m just trying to fit in; I watched my cousin play house league instead. He didn’t celebrate in an exaggerated fashion. Do you know why?
“Because he acts like he’s been there before and has respect!”
Actually, no. He didn’t because he spent half the game in the box and didn’t score. Kid would’ve probably done cartwheels if he could’ve buried a tap in. Because sports are fun and that would’ve been fun.
Anyway, that’s enough hot and dumb takes for now. We still have a few more to make in the form of question responses!
@eddya52 asked: Will the Canucks have to hope for a lottery win to get a top 5 pick or are they bad enough to get there themselves?
Here’s the thing about that; the tank race is real, and its real close. As it stands, there’s a ten-point gap between 17th overall and 30th. The Canucks could be in dead last by the end of the week if things go a certain way; they could also be sniffing at a playoff spot.
With that said, it’s easier to fall in the standings than it is to rise, so I’d say that there’s a chance that they’ll be in a high-probability spot at the end of the year. A guarantee of top-5 requires them to finish last, which isn’t overly likely.
@powerplayparker asked: Why does Ryan Miller suck? #FantasyHockeyProblems
Because established NHL goalies who are rarely more than a few points above league average save percentage don’t exactly become superstars at 35 out of the blue. Miller has never been a top-end goaltender for more than a few months in a row; mediocrity should be the bar for him, and that’s about what Vancouver has gotten in the past year and a half.
@ngsa asked: Are the Canucks in true rebuild mode? Jimbo finally willing to trade Hamhuis etc?
I don’t think that Benning & Co completely throw in the towel and burn the team to the ground, but they’re also not in fantasy land. Assets that they don’t expect to keep beyond like Dan Hamhuis and Radim Vrbata will absolutely be shopped around for assets.
As effective as those two have been in the tenures here, if they end up being the difference between this team squeezing into the playoffs and just barely missing them, then the Canucks likely weren’t a good enough team to do damage once they got in. I’m sure management recognizes this, and barring severe lowballing will react accordingly.
@Verviticus asked: can we hire those three guys with the fire gillis sign to use their power to get benning fired and how
Earlier today, Dylan “D-Boss” Larkin’s friend reached out to various Red Wings outlets to complain about being called, well Larkin’s friend in response to an old YouTube video of the two of them. If you allude to potential attention, but don’t actually give it, somebody will always come out of the woodwork to take it.
You can absolutely hire these guys to bring similar signs to games again; giving them the tickets will likely be enough. How do you find them? Get them into the public conversation again until they demand to be known as “those guys”. It’ll take 48 hours to find them. 24 if they have LTE on their phones.
@JDylanBurke asked: The website seems to be doing so much better since January 4th. Has anything changed in that time?
Lots of stuff! We’ve tweaked the scheduled content, well, schedule. We’ve had to spend less time editing Josh’s work. We’ve been on the ball in terms of reacting to news. That last point is huge; the Canucks weren’t giving us this type of juice earlier in the year. Most of all, though, a certain job promotion has done wonders for the site. I just can’t stress that enough.
Seriously. Grainne and Matthew are much better tweeters than I ever was. I pop in from time to time, but I think us being better than ever on social media has been the biggest difference. Without retweets, what are we really?
