CHL

• Carson Focht had a monster week for the Calgary Hitmen scoring 4 times and adding another 2 assists over 3 games.

• Jett Woo also had points in all 3 Hitmen games this week with a power-play goal and 2 assists.

• Ethan Keppen is still out with an undisclosed issue.
• Arturs Silovs sealed a win in the shootout for the Barrie Colts, backstopping them with a 33 save performance. After a shakey December, Silovs has put together a great stretch of games of late. In his last 8 starts, Silovs has a 0.931 save% and has faced 35 or more shots in 6 of those games.

NCAA

• The Michigan Wolverines have been one of the hottest teams in the Big-Ten having gone 8-1 in their last 9 conference games. Captain, Will Lockwood, had a secondary power-play assist in the Wolverines’ 5-1 victory over Michigan State.
• Congratulations to Tyler Madden, Aidan McDonough, and Northeastern for THREEPEATING in the Beanpot tournament! What an amazing accomplishment for that program and it’s very cool that THREE Canucks prospects have had instrumental roles in making that happen.
• Aidan McDonough had a monster performance with a goal and 3 assists in the thrilling double-overtime final. What a find in the 7th round. He was buzzing all over the offensive end of the ice and what impressed me the most was his patience with the puck and vision to find teammates through seams as well as getting himself to the dead zones for scoring chances. He was also fantastic with Tyler Madden on the rush and had two or three prime scoring chances. He was held pointless in Northeastern’s other 2 games this week.

• Tyler Madden scored in the Beanpot finals to give the Huskies life. He scored in the following game for his 19th of the season which puts him tied for third in the Nation. Unfortunately for the Hobey Baker front-runner, it would appear he is going to miss the next 4-6 weeks due to a broken finger suffered in last night’s game.

• Jack Rathbone had a fantastic week for Harvard, putting up five points in three games. His 23 points in 22 games have got me thinking about his future. Harvard guys usually like to stick around for the entirety of their four years. It’s a fantastic opportunity to be amongst some of the brightest young people in North America, so it’s understandable. On top of this, Jack has shown a great amount of conviction in doing what was best for himself and his family. Remember that Rathbone deferred his first year of college to stay close to home and be close to his brother. Here is how Rathbone’s rights work to my understanding of the CBA:

• Rathbone did not become a bona fide college student until prior to the second June 1 following his selection in the Entry Draft. He was taken in the 2017 NHL draft and played in the USHS for the 2017-18 season. There is his first June 1 (2018) and Rathbone has not yet become a bona fide college student. In the 2018-19 season, he suited up for Harvard meaning that he became a college student prior to his second June 1 (2019). The key here now is the definition of his college class. I interpret this to mean that his college class is the class of 2022 because he is a year behind due to deferring. If this is the case, the Canucks don’t need to rush Rathbone to leave college following this season or even after next season. They have his rights until August 15, 2022, which is when he would be free to have his choice of destinations. Okay, enough CBA talk. Here are his highlights.

• Jack Malone scored an empty-net goal for his second of the season.

Russia

• Vasili Podkolzin was pointless in three games this week. He had 5 shots on net and averaged 16 shifts a game.

Sweden

• Nils Hoglander had a nice primary assist this week in 3 games.

• Arvid Costmar suited up in 2 games for the J20 squad this week. He went scoreless in one and had a 3-point game in the other with 2 assists and a shorthanded goal. He played in the SHL on the 15th and netted his first SHL goal.

Czech

• Karel Plasek was pointless in 2 games this week. He played 7:33 in one game and 4:08 in the other.

Finland

• Petrus Palmu had a single secondary-assist in 3 games this week.
• Toni Utunen with another pointless week in 3 games on the third pair.

AHL

• Lukas Jasek with 2 primary assists this week. I’m really thinking he could push for a spot in the bottom-six next year. The odds are still against him but the internal competition can only be seen as a boon for the organization. Here’s Jasek with a great pass on a goal by Nikolay Goldobin.

• Jonah Gadjovich scored his 12th of the year on the power-play.

• Kole Lind added a primary-assist on a nice rush feed.

• Michael DiPietro stopped 28 of 30 in a win against Laval. On Friday he made a Herculean 39 save performance against the Syracuse Crunch but couldn’t get the goal support as the Comets lost 3-2.
