While there hasn’t exactly been a groundbreaking story in Vancouver today, there’s been a lot of smaller tidbits that have come through the pipeline today. Here’s a bit of a look at what you may have missed:
McCann Stays Back
This isn’t an overly surprising decision from the Canucks brass. While it would be nice to put McCann in a consistent winning environment for a couple of weeks, he’s playing decent minutes with the Canucks without looking out of place, and with Brandon Sutter still a ways away, he won’t be without opportunity.
Hamhuis Out Long Term
This isn’t overly surprising, given the track record that facial fractures have across the league. Certainly, the Canucks are going to miss his presence on the point, and if you were in favour of selling Hamhuis at the deadline, this doesn’t give him a lot of time to prove that he’s at game speed before a judgement call would have to be made.
Virtanen Scoreless
Jake Virtanen played his first game of his conditioning stint with the Utica Comets this weekend and went scoreless against the Toronto Marlies.
This isn’t overly alarming; not only is he recovering from injury, the entire team went scoreless as fellow conditioning-stinter Jonathan Bernier continues his ascension from sudden tire fire to love child of Steroid-Era Barry Bonds and the Pope with his third consecutive shutout. Virtanen had no shots on goal and took no penalties, and will get his second crack at striking against the same team on Sunday.
Dorsett Heads Home
Not much is known about Dorsett’s disappearance, though it doesn’t appear to be a groundbreaking issue; he’s expected to be back in time for tomorrow’s game against the Blackhawks.
