You Get a PTO and You Get a PTO and So Does Kevin Carr!

Mere hours after multiple reports confirmed that the Canucks had signed Tuomo Ruutu and James Sheppard to professional tryouts, the club announced that they’d come to terms with minor league goaltender Kevin Carr on a tryout deal too.

I’ll just come out and say it: I’d never heard of Carr at the time of his signing, and a few hours later my knowledge hasn’t necessarily grown. Based on the Canucks press release, I can tell you Carr’s a 26-year-old goaltender who’s toiled in the ECHL. Before graduating to the professional ranks, Carr played at Buffalo State in NCAA Div III. He’s only signed one professional contract, ahead of the 2014-15 season.

In 97 ECHL games, Carr has a .911 Sv% to his credit. The Canucks ECHL affiliate, the Alaska Aces, acquired Carr in late-August from the Tulsa Oilers.

Frankly, this move is likely one to fill the void left by Jacob Markstrom’s absence, as the Swedish netminder is rocking the Tre Kronor in Toronto and will either miss time at training camp or be in need of a little rest. Seeing as Carr is already in the Canucks organization (to some extent) it makes sense that they would throw him a bone, as it were.
