Wrap up from the week two kickoff of Canucks training camp

Week two of Canucks training camp kicked off with a mad scramble between media members.

Coach Travis Green decided to do some line juggling and it left a few players on the outside looking in while some others got some top-six minutes.

Let’s get into day one of week two at Canucks training camp.

“It kind of wakes everyone up a bit” said Travis Green after practice when asked about the line juggling.

Off ice pals Brock Boeser and Elias Pettersson were put back together along with Tanner Pearson as the coach moved Zack MacEwen up to play with Bo Horvat and Antoine Roussel.

This combination of lines looked more like a top nine compared to a top six group as the third line of JT Miller, Adam Gaudette and Tyler Toffoli looked very good out on the ice.

Jake Virtanen and Loui Eriksson were the odd men out at practice on Tuesday.

With MacEwen moving up into the Horvat line and Virtanen being out of the lineup once again, it seems like MacEwen has seized the moment and gotten ahead of Virtanen on the depth chart in the minds of the coaching staff.

Even when Horvat went down the tunnel to get stitched up, Loui Eriksson hopped in to play, leaving Virtanen as the lone extra man.

Practice was full of dump and chase action as it seemed like the team was focusing on more of a defensive awareness. Along with the defensive lines, coach Green has the players skating up and down the ice. They were dumping and chasing for a good portion of practice while they looked to break the dump and chase.

It was nice to see Micheal Ferland skating around today once again.

He was looking lean and mean in drills as he bumped around with Bo Horvat and made his presence felt around the net in a plethora of drills.

If Ferland is able to even be a thirteenth forward and contribute every few games, that would be huge to a team that always likes to have an extra bit of energy in a playoff scenario.

There was a lot of extra work being done today after practice as well.

Elias Pettersson and Brock Boeser were ripping one timers as others were looking to put in work around the net.

The standout player from today had to be Zack MacEwen — who has made a habit of standing out thus far — and it will be interesting to see how he follows it up in the next scrimmage. He was the last player to leave the ice today and put in a lot of extra work after practice and between drills.

The second group only had six players to go along with goaltenders Louis Domingue and Mikey Dipietro. The small group split up the forwards and defencemen as they worked their way through a long practice for six skaters.
