Highlights

Notes

  • That last goal by Predators prospect David Farrance was something else. The best part of the play is the little chip to himself to break the through the defenders. Farrance was a late add for the US but has been steady on the backend for the Americans, and showcased some serious skill with that play. Prior to the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, I did a deep dive on the USNTDP for the season and Farrance showed well. His pGPS of 25.3% looks very favourable based on where he was selected. Nashville is full of great defencemen and this next wave including Samuel Girard, Dante Fabbro, and Farrance are trending very well.
  • Speaking of defencemen, Calgary Flames prospect Adam Fox continues to trend upwards. At the conclusion of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, he was someone that caught my eye after I filled in the gaps of viewing. He exploded for Harvard in the NCAA this season and his stock has only gone up. He is an extremely smart defenceman who makes everything look effortless. He appears to know what’s happening before it happens. Both of his goals were great shots off his read of the play. He is going to be a huge part of the US roster this fall.
  • Carolina Hurricanes prospect Janne Kuokkanen has been noticeable throughout this series, potting another goal tonight. He is a solid player who shoots well. Skates well for his size and knows he to be effective in his role. He ended the game with 8 shots.
  • Ryan Poehling had a notable 3 assist performance today. Always keeping his head up and setting up his teammates. He had fast tracked his high school to play NCAA hockey prior to his draft season. There may still only be so much upside with him, but he is a big man who can play.
  • Robin Salo continues to just be solid. Making smart plays in all three zones.
