Wolf Prowl – November 2nd, 2011

The Wolves split a pair of home games this weekend, losing against Milwaukee 2-1 on Friday night but beating Texas 2-1 on Saturday night. Matt Climie and Eddie Lack each got a start and each stood on their head, again. The Wolves continue to bleed shots, giving up 34 against Texas and 39 against Milwaukee. Also concerning is the sputtering offence, which The Wolves are averaging 35.3 shots per game, putting them 28th in the AHL. During their warmup for Saturday’s game, the Wolves used pink sticks in support of breast cancer awareness.

The goalies were stellar, again. After Matt Climie did everything he could to try to steal a win from Milwaukee, Eddie Lack got a little more goal support to end up in the winner’s column. Darren Haydar scored both goals in Saturday’s win, giving the 32-year-old 4 goals in 9 games. Nathan Longpre scored his first professional goal in Friday’s losing effort.

The Mark Mancari-Jordan Schroeder–Mike Duco line accounted for 9 shots against Texas but managed to be on the ice for the Stars’ only goal. Duco and Mancari were also -1 vs Milwaukee, a game that also saw Stefan Schneider go -2 in his first game of the year.

After sitting out Friday night’s game, Dustin Friesen was back in the lineup on Saturday night at Sebastian Erixon‘s expense, who was singled out by some for being to blame on Milwaukee’s winning goal on Friday. Victor Oreshkovich took ill before Saturday’s game, giving Anton Rodin a chance to play just his second game of the year. Steve Reinprecht has yet to make his Wolves debut. Chris Tanev remains out with what is described as a ‘minor’ injury.

The Wolves, 3-4-0-2, remain in last place in the Midwest Division. They begin a 5-game stretch on the road with a double header Thursday and Friday at Peoria (4-4-1-1). They will also visit Hamilton (4-4-1-0)the following week before another double header at Milwaukee (5-2-0-1). The next home game isn’t until November 19th when the Wolves host San Antonio (3-5-0-0).
