Going into last weekend, the Wolves were flying high, having won 6 of 8. Two games since the last update and the results weren’t that great. Read on.

Week’s Wrap

The Rivermen shut out the Wolves last Sunday. The second of a back-to-back with Peoria was oddly poor for the Wolves. The offence was rolling, but out of nowhere it turned in to a pop-gun attack, getting shutout 4-0. The Rivermen scored 3 goals in the 2nd.

Last night the Wolves hosted the Abbotsford Heat and managed to find the net, but not often enough. Tied 2-2 after overtime, the Heat won the shootout. The Wolves dominated much of the 1st and scored twice, but the Heat came roaring back in the 2nd to tie it up.

Both games this week saw the Wolves again give up more than 30 shots.

Standouts

Not a lot of good play this week. Eddie Lack continued to give Craig Mactavish the solid goaltending he’s come to expect from him. Tim Miller scored his second goal in three games against the Heat. Kevin Connauton continued his strong offensive play, scoring his 7th goal of the year.

Lowlights

Matt Climie has not his usually spectacular self against Peoria on Sunday, but the loss was definitely not his fault.

Despite his scoring run, Miller had a tough game on Sunday, going -3. Connauton had a tough week defensively as well, going -3 in the two games, as were Mark Mancari and Nathan Longpre.

Ryan Parent took a major and game misconduct for Boarding against Peoria. He hit TJ Hensick from behind as Hensick played the puck into the Wolves zone on a rush.

Lineup Notes

Victor Oreskovich got back into the lineup on Friday after missing the previous 10 because of an undisclosed injury. He took Matt Clackson‘s spot.

The lines appear to have stabilized again.

The Hunting Ahead

Two more games this weekend, scheduled in classicly wild AHL fashion. The Wolves host the Heat at home again tomorrow, but first they travel to Grand Rapids tonight to play the Griffins (9-11-1-0). The Heat are 14-8-1-0 but have only scored one more goal than they’ve given up. Their record is likely to level out.
