With a 10 day spring break, the Canucks are heading to Cancun to enter wet t-shirt contests; However, the rest of the league, is either swinging a club or a series. The Canucks fans, have grown tired of jumping on cars and beating up cops. (Not naming names …[cough]Surrey [cough]. They want to know who to cheer for.
Ducks or Sharks?
We’ll ladies and gents, I’ll break it down for you. We want Anaheim, I repeat, Anaheim to win. If the Ducks win, then the Detroit Redwings (inevitable winners of the Bluejackets), will face the Ducks. This means that two juggernauts face off against each other. No matter what, one of these monsters is no longer on the path to the Cup a la Lord Stanley. So issue #1 is solved. Reasonable minds would conclude that Anaheim is the team to cheer for.
Blackhawks or Flames?
This is an issue that could actually start a debate. Since we concluded that we want Anaheim to win, the Flames/Hawks are our only possible opponents. A bonus and significant advantage, home ice, is ours. Regardless of which team wins, Vancouver is currently the strongest of the three.
Do we want the Flames? Right now they are colder than your ex-girlfriend (you know which one). They are still an undermanned beaten down team. The only thing they have going for them right now is the Saddledome. With home ice, the Flames can be a threat. Keenan, we all know has a cup ring. Bertuzzi, if he has his Wheaties for breakfast, can obliterate a player for a series/season with one hit. We have lost to the Flames before, and we remember how unpleasant that feels.
Do we want he Hawks? The Hawks are young, were talking St. Louis young. However, Chicago’s young guns are actually loaded. Their tender has one a cup. Havlat seems to be the king of clutch. However, as loud as it may seem in the United Center, the Saddledome is louder I can assure you. Chicago definitely seems like the mentally stronger team. I don’t think they have the potential to pick up the same momentum as Calgary.
This series looks like it is probably going to seven. Both opponents will be formidable. If I did have to choose, which I do, right now, I would pick the Hawks to win. From what I remember, if you wake up big bert, and Iginla, these sleeping giants can decimate your team and your series. If Kipper gets hot, then your really in trouble. In closing, booooo the Flames, cheer the Hawks.
So for all you Canuck fans who were too busy looking out your window for patrol cars, heres a summary. Cheer for the Ducks, and the Hawks. Trust me.
