It’s safe to say things didn’t work out in Vancouver for Loui Eriksson.
The Canucks signed Eriksson as an unrestricted free agent in 2016 to a 6-year deal valued at $36 million.
The hope was that the Canucks could capture that lightning in a bottle that Eriksson showed playing alongside Daniel and Henrik Sedin at the national level for Team Sweden, but quite the opposite happened.
Eriksson began his Canucks tenure by infamously scoring on his own net on opening night, and that goal would serve as a metaphor of sorts for the way the rest of Eriksson’s time with the Canucks would go.
After scoring 30 goals in the year prior with the Boston Bruins, Eriksson tallied 11 goals and 13 assists.
And he never quite bounced back.
In recent years, he was often a healthy scratch and both the team and player desperately wanted there to be a change of scenery.
This offseason, that happened. Eriksson was included in the blockbuster deal that brought Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Conor Garland to Vancouver, and played his first game as a member of the Arizona Coyotes last night.
He also scored a goal that we’re struggling to find a comparable for:
Serious question, did Eriksson ever even attempt a shot like this when he was a member of the Canucks?
This is all we can find:
Let the Loui revenge tour begin.
