Jonathan Lekkerimäki has found his game in this year’s Allsvenskan playoffs, and on Tuesday, the 18-year-old Vancouver Canucks prospect scored his first goal of the Allsvenskan finals.
Lekkerimäki’s team Djurgården is two games into the Allsvenskan finals and currently has the series tied 1-1 against Modo.
Since coming back from injury, Lekkerimäki has been playing on Djurgården’s top forward line and is seeing a ton of ice with the first power play unit. The man advantage was where Lekkerimäki tickled twine on Wednesday. Some early replies on Twitter said that the goal was giving them ‘Naslund vibes’.
This was another big goal for his team as Lekkerimäki’s fourth goal of the playoffs gave Djurgården a 2-0 lead early in the third period. Djurgården ultimately blew that lead and was forced off to overtime after two late goals from Modo. They earned a power play in the extra frame and though Lekkerimäki didn’t draw a point on the game-winning goal, he was on the ice when the power play scored to win it and tie the series at one win a piece.
After 10 playoff games, Lekkerimäki now has four goals and four assists. He’s been playing with much more intensity in his game and some of his scoring chances are coming directly from his solid play retrieving the puck or winning a 50/50 battle. We’re seeing his ice time be higher than it was all season long and his coach is also trusting him late in games.
Game three of the series is on Friday as the series shifts back home for Lekkerimäki and his Djurgården club.
We will keep you posted on Lekkerimäki and his current hot streak that he is riding to close out the 2022-23 year.
