One of our favourite long-shot prospects has found twine for the first time in the 2023-24 SHL season.
2020 seventh-round pick Lucas Forsell was quiet through the first three games of the season. He was on Färjestad’s fourth line and did not see a ton of ice time. This may begin to change as he found the back of the net during Saturday’s game against Malmö.
Forsell came across to the slot and fired a powerful slap shot that found the back of the net.
Forsell even pulled the monkey off his back, showing that he broke out of his scoreless start to the season.
The 20-year-old has been a player we’ve liked for a while due to his tenacity on the forecheck and the scoring touch that he showcased last season. Forsell went on a wild stretch in the SHL last season where he scored 11 goals in 23 games. Those 11 goals were atop the goal lead for U20 players in the SHL.
Forsell recently turned 20, so there are no more U20 lists for him. The gritty winger is looking to establish himself as an everyday top-six player this season and scoring in the fourth game of the season is a good start for him to get more ice time.
Don’t expect Forsell to be coming to North America until he is confident in himself being able to make an impact. He has told CanucksArmy that it may be one year, two years or even five years until he comes over to North America. Forsell wants to be prepared and further down the road of his personal development before he makes the jump. The good news is that he just turned 20, and has already shown a lot of promise as a Canucks prospect.
He’s been a hell of a story as a seventh-round pick for the Canucks and the story continues to be written.
