Vancouver Canucks Reassign Jordan Subban; Utica Comets Recall Michael Garteig

The Vancouver Canucks farm team in the AHL, the Utica Comets, is going to get a pair of reinforcements today. To clear room for players returning from mumps and mumps-related symptoms to the Canucks’ lineup, the club reassigned defenceman Jordan Subban to the Utica Comets of the AHL. The Comets announced shortly afterwards that they’d recalled goaltender Michael Garteig from the ECHL’s Alaska Aces.

Prior to these roster moves, the Comets had just six healthy defencemen available to them and the one goaltender (Vancouver recalled Richard Bachman just yesterday). We talk about the Canucks roster as being depleted by the mumps, but Utica was without their top two defencemen before the Subban reassignment. One has to imagine Comets head coach Travis Green is more than a little relieved.

In spite of joining the Canucks last Friday, Subban’s still yet to play an NHL game. In 46 games with the Comets this season, Subban has 29 points.

This will be Garteig’s second tour of duty in Utica. The former NCAA free agent’s appeared in four games this season and has a 0-1-1 record with a .907 Sv% to his credit. In 22 appearances with the Alaska Aces, Garteig’s posted a 11-6-2 record with a .906 Sv%.
