The Vancouver Canucks did some housekeeping today, sending Jordan Subban to the Utica Comets on reassignment.
After tonight’s game in Arizona, the Canucks enter the All-Star Break. So too does the AHL, where Subban’s expected to represent the Utica Comets alongside teammate Alexandre Grenier. Subban’s been with the team since a January 19th recalla move necessitated by Andrey Pedan’s waiver status.
Subban skated with the team in practice, but didn’t see a single NHL shift, which, in all likelihood, is precisely how the club hoped his recall would play out.
Playing in his second season with the Comets, Subban, 21-years-old, has 22 points in 34 games. Though the defensive side of his game still needs adjustment, there’s no denying he has an NHL-ready shot and offensive instincts.
It will be interesting to see if Subban rejoins the club on the other side of All-Star Weekend. Philip Larsen is skating with the club, and that would put the Canucks in an okay spot regarding their defensive stable — at least until another injury strikes.

Jordan Subban also checked in at fourth on our Midterm Prospect Rankings series. Read about it by following this link.
