After a busy morning for Canucks prospects, Nils Höglander wanted to be the cherry on top of a great day for overseas prospects.
Fellow Canucks prospects Vasili Podkolzin and Dmitri Zlodeyev had two points each in earlier games today. Höglander wanted in on the scoring action and did just that as he notched two points of his own.
He started things with a highlight reel power play assist where he drew defenders to him while opening up space for the one-time shot.
One thing that has been promising in Höglander’s game lately is his effectiveness on the power play. He has been possessing the puck a lot more over the past few games and is setting up plays from down low in the zone.
He followed up that assist by scoring a goal of his own late in the game. He went to the net hard, picked up the rebound and then made no mistake burying his second goal of the season.
Some were beginning to get worried that Höglander’s offensive struggles were going to continue all season. This is far from the truth as he has been receiving some tough luck over the past 10 games. He finally got a bounce today and made sure to bury it in the back of the net.
There are some games where he looks like he just has another level of stickhandling ability and today was one of those games. It was a strong stat line for Höglander in this game as he had one goal, one assist, three shots on net and one hit in 14:37 of ice time.
It has been a good handful of games for Höglander recently, and he now has five points in his last five games and is currently on a three game point streak. The offence is beginning to flow after he was held off the scoresheet for six games.
He is also being used more and more in graphics for his SHL team Rögle BK. Not only is he one of the best two way players, he is becoming quite the star in the SHL with his amazing dekes and offensive creativity.
Things are beginning to head in the right direction for Höglander and this is good news for those who think he will come into Canucks training camp and make the team. We are a long way away from training camp but Nils Höglander’s final SHL game of his loan is set to be December 12th. They do not begin to play until December 26th and Höglander should be on his way to North America right after his game on December 12th to begin his quarantine.
We will continue to follow Höglander’s progression as his season goes on. Here’s to more highlight reel goals.
