Vancouver Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin announced on Tuesday morning that the club has called up forward Aatu Räty from their AHL affiliate, Abbotsford Canucks.
Räty earns the call-up one week after being awarded AHL Player of the Week. During that week, Räty played four home games where he tallied two goals and seven assists for nine points to claim the honour.
Abbotsford headed out on the road for a trip to Tucson, where Räty added to his hot streak, registering one goal and two assists for three points over that span. This pushed his totals to three goals and 10 assists in six of his previous seven games, with a plus-eight rating and 16 shots on goal.
On the season, Räty has eight goals and 15 assists for 23 points and a plus-two rating through 23 games this season. During his three years in Abbotsford, the former second-round pick has 28 goals and 59 assists for 87 points with a plus-six rating through 120 games.
The Finnish forward started the season up in Vancouver after making the team out of training camp. The centreman turned heads with his impressive and unique faceoff-taking ability, where he would flip his stick to gain an advantage on the right side.
During his stint in Vancouver, Räty scored two goals and two assists for four points with a minus-two rating while averaging 9:31 minutes of ice time per game. However, in the faceoff dot, Räty put that unique technique to the test and walked out victorious, winning 56.3% of his draws.
With this call-up, this leaves the Abbotsford Canucks lacking young talent. Räty will join his regular Abbotsford teammates, Max Sasson, Linus Karlsson, Phil Di Giuseppe and Elias Pettersson (D) on the road with Vancouver.
Räty will join the Canucks in Nashville for Wednesday night’s contest against the Dallas Stars before they wrap up the road trip against the Dallas Stars on Friday evening. We will see if Räty makes his return to Vancouver’s lineup.
