The Vancouver Canucks select Alexandre Mallet 57th overall at the 2012 NHL Draft

The Vancouver Canucks chose Rimouski forward Alexandre Mallet with their first pick on day two of the 2012 NHL Entry draft.
Mallet is an overage player who exploded offensively this year after a poor season in 2010-11. His statistics, courtesy of Elite Prospects:
Red Line Report says that his style is a good fit for a "poor man’s Alex Burrows" and describe him this way:
Late-blooming 1992-born forward is a powerful skater who hits like a truck and is one of the most feared fighters in the Q. Plays a north-south game and likes to take the puck straight to the net, where he cashes a lot of garbage goals on rebounds and tips. Relentless forechecker brings it every night in terms of compete level and physicality, and really asserts himself in the corners. Lacks top-six finesse but understands how to be a complementary player. Was team’s enforcer until quadrupling his point total this year. Can both agitate and score, and was a terrific pressure perofrmer in the playoffs. Projects as a power forward who will do the dirty work and can chip in 12-15 goals.
He picked up 34 goals in 68 games, and his offensive explosion this year makes him a prospect of interest. The fact that he has a good frame and can fight suggests that he’s a good bet to have an NHL career even if the scoring doesn’t transslate, but obviously the hope is that he develops into a player who can do more than check and fight.
While Mallet is described as a "complementary" player, he was Rimouski’s second-leading scorer this year and led the team in offensive production in a 21-game post-season.
