The Canucks Army Podcast Episode 5: Belated Draft Edition

Hey all, long time, no see. It’s been nearly two whole weeks since the last time I published an article. I’ve been busy with a combination of real life and some research and development, working to improve the pGPS model. In the meantime, I’m compiling articles in which to use the updated data – I’ll have a handful of draft related content coming in the near future.
In the present, however, we have another edition of the Canucks Army podcast for you. It’s full from tip to tale with draft content, as J.D. and I discuss how the Canucks performed at the NHL Entry Draft in Buffalo two weekends ago, as well as which teams were making savvy picks and which teams were reaching (*cough*Boston*cough*).
And that’s not even the most exciting part: we’ve made a pretty amazing upgrade to our podcast – something that you’ll surely notice as soon as you fire it up.

The Rundown

  • 4:00 – Olli Juolevi is good.
  • 12:50 – The size versus skill argument.
  • 16:15 – Unusual draft decisions (a.k.a. the Don Sweeney playbook).
  • 19:25 – The Canucks’ new late round draft approach.
  • 29:50 – The Adam Gaudette effect.
  • 34:30 – Rodrigo Abols (thumbs down).
  • 40:05 – Cole Candella (thumbs up).
  • 42:20 – More praise for Juolevi.
I hope you enjoy our tangential coverage of the 2016 NHL draft. If you did, fret not, another podcast is already on the way, with free agency being the next topic. Also, if you liked it, feel free to like/rate/subscribe on iTunes, or however that works. If you didn’t like it, go ahead and tell us how dumb we are in the comments, then tell your friends to listen and do the same.
Last but not least, a very special thanks to TSN 1040 producer turned Canucks Army contributor Satiar Shah for adding a professional touch to our fancy new intro.
