Stick Taps – December 4th, 2016

Stick Taps is a Canucks Army feature where we link to the top news from the Canucks and across the NHL. If you’ve written a blog post, produced a tribute video, birthed a clever .gif into existence, have a hockey related cause you’d like to see promoted in this space or anything else – please tweet or DM us at CanucksArmy on Twitter!
This is the first edition of Stick Taps, a trip around the hockey world with an emphasis on some of the posts circulating around the Smylosphere. Now, I know what you’re thinking. Yes, it’s very similar to the old Headshots led by many including the legend of Artem Chubarov. Headshots have taken a turn for the cringe-worthy though, so we decided to change it up and give credit in the only way hockey players know how. Stick taps.
With that being said, let’s dive in!

Local Calling

The Stanley Cup playoffs are a longshot for these Vancouver Canucks, but in an iffy Pacific division and with a bit of luck, they could find themselves in the mix. Our pals at Pass it to Bulis examined the hypothetical Canucks’ playoff push and why it’s probably not worth their time:
 — Pass It To Bulis
Ben Kuzma took a look at Jake Virtanen’s last month-or-so, with quotes from a few in the organization — Vancouver Sun
Chris Nichols reported that the NHL is taking a look at hosting games in China next season, and the Canucks could be tagged in. The Comeback did a piece with a round-up of quotes — The Comeback

Nationwide Calling

The Canucks aren’t the only team taking a look at their core and evaluating it, after a disappointing start to the season, Ari Yanover at Flames Nation took a look at their core — FlamesNation
And over at The Leafs Nation, Jeff Veillette takes a look at why former Canuck Frank Corrado is the right choice for Atlantic Division captain — TLN
Right here at CA, our own Ryan Biech takes a look at what Bo Horvat’s next contract might look like for the Canucks — Canucks Army

For the first time since 2006, British Columbia will be hosting the 2019 World Junior Hockey Championships in Vancouver and Victoria. With a combined partnership with BC Hockey, Vancouver Giants, Victoria Royals, and Vancouver Canucks, our home province out-bid the likes of Edmonton and Saskatchewan to host the international event.

Finally, Bo Horvat is one of four Canucks on the ballot for the 2017 NHL All-Star Game. The Sedins and Loui Eriksson would probably love a week off from hockey to hang out with their kids, so help them out by sending Bo to LA. You can vote ten times a day right here —  NHL
