So nice, why not do it twice? Canucks Army Viewing Party at The Pint!

Watching the Vancouver Canucks has been an, almost entirely, irredeemable experience in 2013-14. They’ve been losing far more than they’ve been winning since the calendar flipped to the new year, and even worse, they’ve been doing so in a brutally uninteresting fashion. But for a variety of reasons, we’ve all continued to put ourselves through the misery that is devoting 3 hours to them time and time again, whenever they pop up on the schedule.

Which brings us to April 1st. That’s the night when the Canucks host Alain Vigneault and his New York Rangers, but it’s also the night we’ll be having our “Canucks Army Viewing Party/Charity Event” for the second time this season. You shouldn’t be alone on that night, we need to get through these rough times together.

Let’s take it back to basics and go through the Six Ws – well, it’s technically 5 Ws and 1 H, but who’s really counting? – in a quick and easy way to get all of the relevant information we need. My elementary school teachers would be so proud of me if they could see me now.

All of us? Me, you, your friends, our mutual e-friends (+ those other guys on the Canucks Army staff, too). The more, the merrier. I can tell you that the last time we did one of these events, we had just over 30 people make it out. I don’t mean to put words into anyone’s mouth, but I think everyone there had a pretty sweet time. It actually kinda, sorta made watching the Canucks play hockey a more bearable spectacle.

It’s pretty self-explanatory. We’ll get together, watch hockey at a bar, and drink beer/eat food. The ticket price for the event is $15, but by paying that price you get:

The Canucks lost to the Blackhawks 5-2 the last time we did this type of thing back on January 29th, but that hardly got in the way of us having a good time.

Personally, there were two things that stuck out to me from that night: 

1) It was awesome meeting some of the people that I see pop up on my timeline on a daily basis. Putting faces to names (or in this case, Twitter handles) is always fun. I mean, events like this bring guys like Cam Charron and Dapper Don together for crying out loud!

2) Tom Sestito scored, and we started a pretty raucous “Top Six-tito” chant directly afterwards. Think of all of the fun we can have at the expense of Alain Vigneault and the Rangers..

And no, this isn’t an April Fools’ Day joke. We’ll definitely all be there!

The Pint. If you’ve never been, it’s at 455 Abbott Street. The cross-street is Pender, and it’s essentially across the street from Tinseltown (which is now apparently called “Cineplex Odeon International Village Cinemas”, but what do I know, I still refer to where the Canucks play as “GM Place”).

It’s the “Official Bar of Canucks Army”. As long as you’re 19+, and are able to be reasonably and control yourself, we fully condone drinking (we reiterate responsibly). How else could we handle an 82-game slate of Canucks games this season?

The game itself starts at 7pm, but I figure we’ll get there around 5:30/6 to get settled, grab a bite, and hangout. It’s a pretty popular pre-drink spot for people going to the game, so if you get there and it’s super busy, don’t be surprised. But hopefully we’ll be able to try and get a section for ourselves so that finding seating won’t be an issue.

This probably should’ve been the first bullet point, but hopefully at least some of you have carried on reading through until the very end (even if it’s just purely out of common courtesy). But yes, just like last time, we’ll be using all of the money accrued from the $15 ticket prices to give back to a local charity. We were both proud and satisfied with what we were able to do last time, but hopefully we’ll be able to surpass that total and then some this time around. 

Since I know it’ll be asked: no, I can’t reveal where exactly the proceeds will be going to. We have something in mind, but it’s not set in stone. And even if it was, we wouldn’t reveal it because of some of the technicalities and loopholes that come with the territory. It’s much easier to round up the money, and then give it to whichever cause we choose, than having to go through them so that we can legally use their name as part of our marketing for the event. The end result will be the same this way, regardless, with much less hassle.

Or you can always also just buy your ticket at the door if that’s easier for you, but I think it simplifies things for all parties involved if you just get the ticket now, so that we know what kind of a turnout to expect. If you do that you can just pull up the receipt on your phone (or just print it off) and show it at the door when you get there.
