Rypien’s Rage

Rick Rypien lost his mind and probably many of his fans last night, after his non-sensical 3-minute fit of rage where he sucker-punched an opponent and then went after a fan. Not that I was ever a fan of his, but last night, he lost me for good.
If I was Mike Gillis, then I would have said goodbye to Rypien. Permanently.
I’ve never really been a fan of Rick Rypien. Other than the rare spark of energy he brings to his team by fighting someone 8 inches taller than him, I don’t see what value he brings to the club.
And last night’s embarrassing antics prove that he has hit the end of the line.
The Cnaucks organization has been incredibly tolerant with Rypien over the years, as he has continually battled emotional and physical problems. But the nonsense that he displayed in Minnesota last night has to his last straw, at least if it were up to me.
The NHL will surely throw the book at him. I would personally guess a minimum of 8 games, but if he got 15 games or more, I would not be surprised or upset. In fact, I would applaud. Players simply CANNOT engage the fans in this manner. EVER. And the fact that it was seamingly unprovoked makes it all the worse.
Goodbye Rick Rypien. We won’t see you on the ice for quite a while. If I was the GM, you wouldn’t be putting on a Canucks sweater again. Because I’ve had enough of your antics. And this was the last stop for me.
