Yesterday, the Vancouver Canucks announced that Kevin Bieksa will be signing a one-day contract to officially retire as a Canuck on November 3rd against the Anaheim Ducks.
Fans were ecstatic to hear the news, and that was probably true for former Canuck Roberto Luongo, who was teammates with Bieksa for years.
But as he so often does, Luongo took the opportunity to take a humourous jab at the one-day contract.
Luongo infamously said “my contract sucks” amid questions about why he hadn’t been traded at the 2013 trade deadline prior to the Canucks dealing him to the Florida Panthers in 2014.

Upon retiring after the 2018-19 season, Luongo’s contract was still affecting the Canucks, as the club received a salary cap recapture penalty for three seasons at $3.03 million.
This is the first season in which the Canucks won’t have the penalty on their books.
