According to a report from Rick Dhaliwal from Sportsnet 650, Troy Stecher’s season isn’t done quite yet as he has been invited, and accepted, to represent Canada at the upcoming World Championships:
It’s great news for the Canucks defenceman as he has never represented his country at a major international tournament at any point in his career.
Stecher joked with the media at the end of the season press conference that he was available for Canada but hadn’t heard anything. He had a good sense of humour about the situation and should be ecstatic about this chance.
Troy from Richmond is coming off a season that saw him rise up the ranks and become a huge part of the Canucks defensive group for now and going forward. He was one point shy of his career high but his underlying numbers and transition play took tangible steps forward.
Stecher joins Elias Pettersson, Quinn Hughes, Loui Eriksson, Thatcher Demko and Jacob Markstrom as members of the Canucks representing their various countries.
