The Vancouver Canucks, who have long been linked to Arizona Coyotes defenceman Oliver Ekman-Larsson, finally got their guy.
The news broke early Friday afternoon after John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports tweeted that a deal involving OEL and forward Conor Garland heading to Vancouver was close.
Soon after, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet tweeted the following:
Update 1:58 PM: Gambadoro is reporting that the Coyotes are taking back a portion of the Ekman-Larsson contract in the deal. Arizona will pay about 1.2 million per year for the remaining 6 years left.
Update 2:06 PM: Friedman reports the final trade is: OEL and Garland for Beagle, Eriksson, tonight’s ninth overall pick, a second-round pick next year, and a seventh-round pick. Arizona retains 12 percent of OEL’s salary for the remainder of the contract.
