The Quinn Hughes era is upon Vancouver.
After the morning skate this morning, it was announced that Quinn Hughes would be making his Canucks debut against the L.A. Kings later this evening.
Fans are rightfully excited to see what the 19-year-old defenceman can do on the backend for the organization. He provides a fantastic combination of transition and puck possession that none of the other defencemen can give.
There should be tempered expectations on what he can do but it’s hard to not get excited about him playing. He is expected to start the game with Luke Schenn and see time on the second powerplay unit.
Capfriendly pointed out that Hughes has a performance bonus in his contract:
It was reported at the time of signing but given that Hughes missed some time due to injury, there are only enough games left for him to hit that bonus. With that in mind, we could probably see Hughes in all the remaining games this season.
Ben Hutton is also expected to make his return to the lineup after missing some time due to injury. His play this season has been a bit of an underrated story in terms after struggling so much last season.
Lastly, Sven Baertschi will sit out tonight and Ryan Spooner will take his place, his this being done due to fatigue for Baertschi.
