Player Power Rankings: February 19, 2018

It’s back! With the go-ahead from Grainne, I’m bringing back CanucksArmy’s weekly Player Power Rankings! Overall, I’d say it was a pretty good week for the Canucks. Why would I make such a statement when the week included two losses in a row? Look no further than Saturday night’s game vs Boston. I think that’s a game that Canucks fans, whether they’re on team tank or not, are perfectly fine with winning. Now, let’s get stated…

I don’t think there was anybody happier this week then those two. A new contract for Benning means job security and time to prove that his hockey moves were worth while. For Trevor Linden, he got his man.

Edler has played some terrific hockey lately. He’s moving the puck, playing physical, and been a steady defensive presence. We haven’t seen him play like this in a while and he’s also moving up the Canucks’ history books:

He was a brick wall against Boston, and anyone who plays a significant part in the team defeating the Bruins is worthy of praise.

Normally I wouldn’t have him rated this high, but he certainly captured the hearts of fans when he layed this hit on Brad Marchand:

With 10 points in 13 games since returning from his foot injury, Horvat looks like hasn’t even lost a step.

Vanek has been making some creative passes which are fun to watch, and it’s even more enjoyable when they’re setting up goals:

He’s on a 4-game point streak and is also climbing up some record books of his own:

He drove to the net.

He made Virtanen look good (see above).

Baertschi scored a nasty goal at the Superskills competition. I wish more players had the guts to pull off these kind of moves in shootouts. They’re fun to watch.

He’s brought everything the Canucks have been looking for: a Derek Dorsett-like on-ice presense.

2 assists and a +4 vs. Boston? Fine by me!

Just because he deserves some praise every time he scores a goal.

He spent his off day reading and playing with a 2nd-grade class in North Vancouver. What a guy.

They can’t speak Mandarin but at least they tried!

How unlucky have these two been?! Boeser is getting goals taken away and Stecher drew blood only to get a 2-minute powerplay…

Apparently Jacob Markstrom is sick. Hope he feels better!

He’s been healthy-scratched quite a bit as of late, and rumours and flying that teams (**Ahem** Boston) are interested in him.

They’re all injured, which sucks.

I have to admit that I feel terribly for him. He had a list of suitors vying for his services this off-season, but he chose Vancouver. I guarantee that he didn’t picture the season turning out like it has. He’s on his second call-up and has yet to lace it up for the Canucks. I hope he finally gets his chance sooner rather than later… or even never…
