The 2019 NHL Entry Draft is about to kick off but some of the home-openers for 2019-20 season was released earlier this morning
The Canucks will take part in three separate home openers as they start their season with an October 2nd date with the Edmonton Oilers in Alberta and then make the drive down highway 2 to Calgary for the Flames home opener on October 5th.
They will then make their way home to host the Los Angeles Kings on October 9th at Rogers Arena.
The fact that it is the Los Angeles Kings is a nice touch as the Canucks played their inaugural game against the same opponent and was also their opponent for their 40th season celebrations in 2010. It’s the first of what should many nights of celebration as the Canucks honour their 50th season.
During that 2010 contest against the Kings, the Canucks announced that Henrik Sedin would be their captain. Could we see a similar type of reveal on October 9th?
It will be a little different since they start the season on the road but it would be a great way to introduce the new leader of this team.
The Canucks also hosted an event with the Sedin twins at Rogers Arena that revealed that their jerseys would be retired in February. No definitive date was revealed but gives everyone an idea of when to expect that event. Could the Florida Panthers and Roberto Luongo make their lone appearance for that?
It appears it’s going to be a fun season filled with many memorable nights to look forward to.
