The first roster announcement for World Juniors training camps have been released and a Canucks prospect is part of it. 2016 5th overall pick Olli Juolevi has been invited to the Finnish World Juniors Camp:
This shouldn’t come as a surprise at all, given that Juolevi has already appeared in two World Juniors for Finland and is expected to be a workhorse for the Finns as they look to recover from last years debacle of a tournament.
Juolevi had a fantastic 2016 World Juniors, posting 9 assists in 7 games en route to the goal medal win. The 2017 team struggled in the round robin and was in danger of being relegated before winning a couple of games and remaining in the top tournament. Anything that could go wrong for the Finn’s last year, did.
At a quick glance, this years team’s strength is on the backend with Juolevi, Miro Heiskanen, Juuso Valimaki and Robin Salo likely making up four of the six spots. Add Henri Jokiharju, who is having a fantastic season with Portland, and you have the makings of a very mobile puck-moving defence that will transition the puck with speed.
The forward group is a plucky bunch that will be able to make life difficult for their opponents.
The Finnish evaluation camp runs from December 15-22 in Niagara Falls, USA.
