You saw the major headlines that dominated the week, and are likely going to see more within the next 24 hours as we gear up for the frenzy that comes with free agency each and every year.

While you likely already know about the big stuff, like who the Canucks drafted and which RFAs they qualified yesterday, here are three minor pieces of news that you may have missed this week.

The Canucks sixth-round pick of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, Arturs Silovs is heading to his home country of Latvia to play for his hometown club, HS Riga.

Silovs appeared in 38 games last year for the Barrie Colts, where he posted a .891 save percentage and a goals against average of 3.87.

While those numbers certainly don’t jump off the page, it’s important to remember that Silovs was always going to be a project goaltender who had a ton of upside, but was far from being a surefire lock to make it in the NHL.

Give him a few more years and some guidance under Ian Clark, and maybe Silovs will reveal himself as a diamond in the rough. He’s only 19, after all.

Remember Richard Bachman? No, not Stephen King’s pen name; the goaltender who was a member of the Vancouver Canucks organization for five years.

He spent most of that time in Utica, but Bachman did play seven games in a Canucks uniform.

He was a friendly face for the prospects in Utica, who have only had good things to say about him. Bachman mentioned the Canucks in his retirement post on Twitter:

Bachman will now focus on his new position as the goaltending coach for the Iowa Wild.

Although Oscar Fantenberg likely won’t return to the Canucks next season, that didn’t stop the team from wishing him a happy birthday from their official Twitter account. Fantenberg turned 29 on October 7th, and Adam Gaudette — who was qualified by the Canucks on Wednesday — celebrated his 24th birthday on October 3rd.
