Is there a Canucks and Tryamkin reunion in the future?

Yesterday morning, Canucks GM Jim Benning was on Sportsnet 650 and they covered a plethora of topics.

One of which was the negotiations of Brock Boeser and was something that was covered yesterday here on CanucksArmy. Another topic that was brought up was Russian defenceman, Nikita Tryamkin.

Canucks fans have a long-standing love for the ‘big friendly giant’ and want him to come back to the organization. When Benning was asked about Tryamking and if there was interesting in bringing him back, he had this to say:

Benning added that Tryamkin has another year remaining in his KHL deal and that the NHL honours those commitments. Which means at the very earliest, Tryamkin could make a return to the NHL in April or May 2020.

It’s clear that the organization has a desire to bring him back but the question is if Tryamkin wants to return to the organization. It was clear that he wasn’t satisfied with a few things and thus signed the three-year deal in the KHL. Ultimately, the situation will remain stuck in limbo until the conclusion of the KHL season next year and then go from there.

The Canucks may find out that Tryamkin wants to come back to the NHL but doesn’t want to be a part of the organization and thus they can use his rights as an asset to move. The Canucks do retain his rights until June 30, 2022, so there isn’t a rush to resolve the issue at the immediate conclusion of this upcoming season.

Working in the Canucks favour is the fact that the team is hoping to trend upwards from here, aren’t restricted by the limitations of the entry-level contract system, and is now being led by a different bench boss. That may be enough to get Tryamkin to come back over and give it another try. But only time will tell on that front.
