Headshots September 27th

Today is a big day. A momentous day. 29 years ago today, Aaron Rome graced us with his presence on planet earth. The man that fans of his refer to as "Romeo" wasn’t necessarily blessed with tremendous hockey skills. To compensate for that, though, he was given the ability to grow a spectacular mustache, and became one of the most polarizingly average players in the league. Nobody is lukewarm on his tenure as a Canuck. If you’d like to celebrate tonight, feel free to tweet @taj1944 (or call Mr.Vigneault). Conversely, if you feel inspired to send Rome-induced jokes to someone, @TheStanchion is your man.

Jason Botchford wrote on the wait-and-see approach that the Canucks are taking with Alexander Edler, in regards to his contract extension. He mentioned – and linked – Edler to his countrymate Tobias Enstrom, who was rewarded with an extension of his own this summer. In case you were wondering, Edler does not match up all that favourably with Enstrom when looking at some of the underlying numbers.

Rob The Hockey Guy is a little fed up with the jokes, and hatred Canucks fans seem to possess for the Canucks of the early 2000’s. I agree to an extend, but still, Cloutier made the jokes far too easy for people to pass up on making them. It’s the beauty of Cloutier – he was the gift that kept on giving (up goals to the opposition, that is).

On Nucks Misconduct, we’re reminded of January 14th, 2006 – the night that the Canucks put a whooping on the New York Islanders, for fun. It’s always fun to remember times we took advantage of the less fortunate.

The Sedins celebrated their 32nd birthdays yesterday, together, I’m sure. With five points, Henrik will become the highest scoring player in NHL history born on that day.
