Dale Weise is getting in the Halloween spirit a bit early…
Headshots are a Canucks Army feature where we link to the day’s freshest news, and other assorted Canucks web-goodies. If you’ve written a blogpost, produced a tribute video, birthed a clever .gif into existence, or have a hockey related cause that you’d like to see promoted in this space – please e-mail Thom at thom.drance@gmail.com
The Chicago Wolves kick off their season this weekend with a game against Rockford (Chicago’s AHL affiliate). There is a lot of reason to be optimistic about the Wolves this season, and that starts in between the pipes.
Justin Goldman of The Goalie Guild has the Wolves ranked as having the top goaltending in the entire AHL.
CHICAGO: Everyone loves Eddie Lack, and for good reason. Just like his predecessor Cory Schneider, and even if it takes him a few years to eventually get there, the Swedish prospect has “future NHL stud” written all over him. Combine his skill with the reliance and steadying influence of veteran Matt Climie and newly-hired goalie coach Dan Cloutier, and there should be very few weak efforts in goal for the Wolves this season.
Patrick Johnston will have a lot more regarding the Wolves tomorrow with a comprehensive season preview. Zack Kassian and Jordan Schroeder are getting an opportunity to develop some chemistry together on the top line, and they are joined by gritty speedster Billy Sweatt. I am expecting big things from Kassian this fall.
What are your thoughts on the top 10 blunders of the Mike Gillis era? Unsurprisngly, the Ballard trade ranks as his worst move.
Thanks to the offseason surgery he was recovering from in his first summer as a Canuck, he struggled during the preseason. Just four games into the year, he suffered a concussion. The entire run has been a comedy of errors. The result has been two seasons in which Ballard has failed to top 7 points, while logging under 16 minutes. Not exactly the type of production you’d like to see from a player with a $4.2 million cap hit.
The trickle-down effect of the lockout – the ECHL’s Kalamazoo Wings will have several Canucks prospects, including Darren Archibald, Joe Cannata, and Adam Polasek. Cannata starting off in the ECHL is far from the worst thing that could happen – several other NHL starters have started their pro careers there, including the two most recent Conn Smythe winners.
And if you were like me and had no idea where the heck Kalamazoo is, here you go. A few hours to the West of Detroit, Michigan.
I absolutely love what Roberto Luongo has done with his Twitter account, and it really has allowed us to see how funny he is off the ice. Is his twitter hilarity something we would have seen during the last few years, or did he save it until he knew he was heading out of town? Was it simply a coincidence of timing? I
I really wonder how people would perceive him differently if he had been on Twitter a few years ago, for example. (Say…. May of 2009?)
