Headshots: Goaltending Controversy Edition

Headshots are a Canucks Army feature where we link to the day’s freshest news, and other assorted Canucks web-goodies. If you’ve written a blogpost, produced a tribute video or birthed a clever .gif into existence – please e-mail me at thom.drance@gmail.com. This afternoon, it’s the very special all goaltending controversy, all the time edition:
It was announced today that Cory Schneider was… Named the NHL’s second star of the week behind Sidney Crosby after he posted three wins, two of them shutouts. Way to go Cory!
It was also revealed today that Cory Schneider would… Continue to enjoy the support of Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo. Good piece from Iain Macintyre on the two goaltender’s relationship, and how Luongo would be an excellent gardien auxiliaire (cap-hit aside).
Okay no more teasing, the Canucks let it be known that Cory Schneider will start his sixth straight game tomorrow night against the woeful Columbus Blue Jackets. Despite the fact that Luongo is now healthy, and the Columbus Blue Jackets theoretically represent a cupcake game for the oft-criticized Vezina nominee who hasn’t played in over two weeks. But Vigneault has decided to ride the hot-hand, and stick with Cory Schneider tomorrow. So is it still a goaltending controversy, or is Schneider just the Canucks starter now?
Video Break: This is an old classic. Not only is Cory Schneider in the process of supplanting Roberto Luongo as the team’s "starter", he’s long since supplanted Carrot Top as the World’s funniest ginger:
Despite the fact that Cory Schneider gets the start, his sixth straight, at home against a poor team, Alain Vigneault clarified the situation, saying: "obviously, Roberto Luongo is our number 1 goaltender." Yes, that is definitely very obvious at this point. Crystal sparkling clear.
Do we even have time for a goaltending controversy in Vancouver? Not if the Canucks keep winning says Yahoo’s Sean Leahy.
Some guy from the checking line calls the Canucks a fragile team because they’re in the "middle of the pack" in late November. Great analysis! By the way, if the Canucks are a fragile team, what does that make the Columbus Blue Jackets? This is an awkward question, almost as awkward as the time Papa Roach had a baking show on the Food Network called "Cut My Life Into Peaches, This is my Last Fruit Tart."
