Ex-Canuck Peter Schaefer invited to Camp

According to Ben Kuzma, Peter Schaefer has been invited to take part in the Canucks training camp. The former Canuck/Senator/Bruin was bought out by Boston a year ago after spending a season in the AHL with Boston’s affiliate club, the Providence Bruins. He managed just 7 goals and 26 points in 47 games played that year.
A veteran of 556 NHL games, the 33 year old scored 20 goals once for the Senators back in 2005-06. He was mostly a checking option throughout a majority of his time in the league however, speed being his primary strength if memory serves.
Schaefer was originally drafted by the Canucks in the third round of the ’95 entry draft. He played his first three NHL seasons in Vancouver, collecting 36 goals and 75 points in 178 games. At 33 years old, Schaefer is unlikely to be anything more than AHL/NHL depth at this point in his career, although it’s possible the club wants him around in order to fill out some space on the wing while Alex Burrows recovers from shoulder surgery.
