Evening Headshots: February 5th

Heyya folks, sorry for the prolonged break, but I am back and better than ever with yet another edition of the evening headshots. The Canucks recent stretch of agonizingly boring and winless hockey left me with little time and or space on the website to fit in some of the best and brightest, but worry not because they’ve been producing great work all the same.

And now I’ve found the time to get it to you, right after the jump.

Aptly named upstart Canucks blog, Edlers Mind Tricks, breaks down the Canucks recent addition of Raphael Diaz via trade from the Montreal Canadiens. It also looks as though they’ve changed up the layout of their website.

Have you already forgotten about Cory Schneider? Because clearly our good friends at Bure’s Triple Deke haven’t. His name and freckles are brought up en masse in their look at Eddie Lack’s season, as they determine whether or not the “Stork” is deserving of All-Rookie considerations. And I’ll be damned if they don’t have a good case here.

While we’re on the topic of goaltenders, The Province’s Jason Botchford does a fine job of previewing tomorrow’s crease-matchup between Carey Price and Roberto Luongo. Botch feels that tomorrow’s game between the two could have serious implications on who starts for Team Canada in Sochi. Each goaltender is profiled, with their strengths and weaknesses showcased, before Botchford lets it be known that he feels Luongo should start in the Olympics.

Want to have a little Canucks related fun? That’s pretty hard to come by these days, but with The White Towel’s quiz type dealio, you get to decide which Canuck is the next trade domino to fall. I’d do it myself, but I’m having a hard time getting past Weise’s departure…

Not like you needed it at this point, but here’s some more bad Canucks news courtesy of The Province and last night’s Van Provies. Yeah, apparently Daniel Sedin received injury treatment after the game. Oh, joy.

Alright, enough with the negatives. Our good friends over at Pass it to Bulis take a look at the Canucks powerplay to find out what exactly, if anything, has worked for Vancouver this season. Daniel Wagner wants a little bit more of the Sedins on the half-wall, with just a sprinkle of one-timers to Jason Garrison Garrison and Alex Edler.

In case you’re wondering whether the Canucks have any more trades up their sleeves, Pierre LeBrun previews exactly what kind the club might have in mind. Hint: no more rentals.

Apparently Mike Gillis isn’t nearly as delusional as some of us give him credit for. According to this report from The Score, delivered by Canucks Army’s own Thomas Drance, Canucks management is every bit aware of the fact that Vancouver is no longer a legitimate contender as we are.
