The Utica Comets defensive depth took a big hit this afternoon as it was announced by Comets GM Ryan Johnson that McEneny underwent knee surgery and is expected to miss 6 months
It’s really unfortunate for McEneny, as he had been playing well for the Comets with 7 points in 11 games and was definitely in the position to earn a call-up at some point this season. This will provide an opportunity for Guillaume Brisebois and Ashton Sautner to eat up the minutes that McEneny had been playing.

The injury originally occurred in the game versus the Laval Rocket on a hit from Nicolas Deslauriers. McEneny had not played since then. Here is the play where McEneny was hurt

McEneny is in the first year of a two year deal that sees him have a cap hit of $657,500 per season. The young defender will be subject to waivers to start next season, which is likely where he will end up as he will likely be unable to appear in any more games this year.
