Daniel Sedin bleeds heavily after high stick, returns a shift later

The Canucks had a scary moment in the first period, as star left winger Daniel Sedin took a hard and quick high stick to the nose. The 35-year-old Swede was quick to defy the stereotypes his critics give him, however.

The incident came as a result of a battle for a bouncing puck. Montreal’s Brendan Gallagher was hoping to move the frozen rubber into an area more suitable for his team, but instead, got his stick up into Daniel’s face. Daniel dropped immediately and started bleeding all over himself and the ice.

Gallagher received a four-minute double minor for the incident. Daniel switched his jersey for a bloodless one almost immediately, let a trainer clean him up, and hopped back on the ice. While he didn’t get total revenge with a goal, his brother Henrik set up Jared McCann for a gimme to give the Canucks a 2-0 lead, which the team has held through twenty minutes.
