Comments Section Makeover!

At Canucks Army, we like to think that we’ve the savviest readership in the hockey blogosphere. It’s why we’ve kept our comments section open to anyone who visits the site and generally taken a hands-off approach to monitoring the forum.
As with anything, though, all it takes are a few bad apples and the lot is ruined. And if the feedback I’ve received to this point regarding our comments section is any indication, it appears that is the case. With that, I’d like to address some of the changes we’ll be making to how the comments section is monitored and moderated going forward.
With a little due diligence on everyone’s end, we hope to turn the comments section around and developing a healthy environment to discuss everything happening in the Canucks world.

Ch-ch-ch-changes

  1. Going forward, we’ll have anonymous comments disabled. This will keep trolls out of the community, as they’re often effort averse and won’t be willing to put in the time to create an account just to annoy us. And if they do, well, that’s a ban. Easy as that. This will also have the effect of preventing multiple commenters using the same account. This is a problem we’ve come across on multiple occasions.
  2. About those trolls… we’ve had enough! If you don’t intend to add anything meaningful to the conversation, why bother? If you’re just aiming for a rise, chances are your comment will be deleted. If you do this with obvious malicious intent, you will be flagged and banned.
  3. Play nice! I’d like to imagine that you can disagree with us without using abusive language. In fact, I know you can. Try to put yourself in the author’s shoes. You work a full-time job, often have to pull double or triple shifts, and when you provide free content, you get obscenities hurled at you for a spelling mistake or two. Does that seem fair? Hardly. So don’t do it! If you respectfully point out mistakes or inaccuracies, we’re all too happy to hear that. In fact, we’ll often adjust our content accordingly. Just be nice about it. I can’t stress enough how seriously I take this. If I deem anything said to the Canucks Army staff as abusive, you’re getting banned.
And to those of you who’ve always maintained a lofty standard in the comments section, we thank you. We look to you to help us maintain this golden standard going forward! Thanks so much for your continued readership and support.
