Scoring has proven difficult for the Vancouver Canucks, and they’ll get another chance to put one on the board right away as they go to Los Angeles to take on the Kings the night after dropping a 1-0 decision to the league’s worst team, the Arizona Coyotes.
LA recently dropped their last contest against the Blues 7-2, but the Kings are 6-4 in their last ten games while the Canucks have only two wins in their last 10. Winning the second game of a back-to-back is tough especially when the team can’t even score one goal.
You know the drill…

LINE COMBINATIONS
Tyler Motte and Alex Biega were scratches yesterday. Motte is still under waiver exemption so he’ll see a few more press box games. Tonight, he should slot back in as should Biega. The Canucks need any bit of physicality they can muster up so those two will help. As far as lines go, there isn’t much to change in that respect. Canucks head coach Travis Green may opt to shake it up a bit but really, what would that accomplish?
Jacob Markstrom didn’t have a tough game yesterday so it wouldn’t be surprising to see him start again tonight.

After the drubbing at the hands of the Blues, the Kings tested out some lines in practice on Sunday. Anze Kopitar was on a line with Dustin Brown and Tanner Pearson. Jeff Carter was with Trevor Lewis and Tobias Rieder. The bottom two lines were a bit of a mishmash so don’t put too much thought into them.
Jonathan Quick should start this evening, and he likes those Canucks.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
  • The Canucks have fared well against the Kings this season sporting a 2-1 record and they’ve even won in Los Angeles. There isn’t much to brag about this season but owning the Kings feels pretty good.
  • There hasn’t really been an aggressive Canucks game in quite some time so a high event, high hitting game would really restore some faith with Canucks nation. Dion Phaneuf is a King now, and even though Jarkko Ruutu and Alex Burrows/Ryan Kesler aren’t here anymore, a Brendan Leipsic spark would be a nice transition. There is hope, Canucks fans, but you have to dig.
  • It’s getting close to the end of an era, an amazing era for the Sedins. There are five players with more points than Henrik Sedin (1063) since he came into the league (Joe Thornton, Jarome Iginla, Alex Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby, and Marian Hossa). Most of Henrik’s contributions have come via the assist (824) which he only trails Thornton. He’s good.
  • Bo Horvat remains the only healthy Canuck that leads the team in points against the Kings this season. Loui Eriksson, Thomas Vanek, and Brock Boeser are all injured/traded, so Bo remains with three points in the two games he’s played.
  • If you happen to be attending tonight’s game, you’ll get a Kings reusable bag when you walk in the doors. The Canucks would be smart to snag a few of those and if they score, put the pucks in the bags and use them in the next game. Anything helps right now.
THE TWITTER TAKE
He’s here for good, folks. Brendan Leipsic is a career Canuck until 2025 when he’s traded to the Quebec Nordiques for Harry Sedin and a 4th rounder.
MY 94 CENTS
Does it get worse than the Coyotes? Entertainment wise, probably not. The Canucks and Kings usually have some spirited affairs so if we’re lucky we’ll get one of those. Erik Gudbranson or Jake Virtanen could light things up with a Tyler Toffoli or Dustin Brown hit so that’s what I’m personally holding out for. Other than that, this game could also be over after the first period.
This team has to show they have more than nothing because I’m not going to lie and say “Whoa boy, this is gonna be a barn burner!” Wake up, Canucks, we demand more.
EITHER / OR
Canucks score or Canucks don’t score?     They score, but they lose. Simple and to the point. Sorry.
Henrik or Daniel Sedin gets a hooking penalty?     Daniel has been a bit more involved but Henrik does like to have the puck on his stick. I’m picking Henrik to lose it and hook it away from a King. Take Henrik.
