The Canucks used their 133rd overall selection in the 2019 NHL Draft to take 19-year-old center Carson Focht of the WHL Hitmen.
Focht is an overager who put up 26 goals and 64 points in 68 games for Calgary this past season. He’s listed at 6’0″ and 179 lbs.

Here’s a quote from a WHL scout on Focht, courtesy of Cam Robinson:
Focht is a player who made good progress this year, especially in the back half of the season. He has good hockey sense, good puck control, and puts in an honest effort on a consistent basis.
He’s a solid junior-age player, but it’s hard to project him as a future NHLer. None of his tools are particularly notable, and he rarely (if ever) dominated games against his peers.
Focht has some good offensive skills and really stepped up his play after not getting drafted in 2018. Focht nearly doubled his point total from the previous season in 2018-19, earning an invite to Hockey Canada’s Summer Development Camp in preparation for the 2020 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship.
Focht may not have been ranked high on most lists, but he’s got some potential upside as a bottom-six center at the NHL level.
