The Vancouver Canucks have rounded out their roster with another recall from the Utica Comets, just a day after Jayson Megna joined the team. Today it’s Anton Rodin who is getting the call.
Rodin, who missed almost all of last season with a knee injury that required season-ending surgery, re-signed with the Canucks this off-season, agreeing to terms on a one-year, one-way contract valued at $700,000. The plan for Rodin was to take one more crack at the bat for a full-time NHL career, who only suited up for the three games last season.
In four games with the Canucks this pre-season, Rodin finished with three points (two goals and one assist) and, to my eye, mostly looked the part of a depth NHL’er. The numbers game such as it is, the Canucks didn’t have room for Rodin, and they sent him through waivers to join the Utica Comets. In three games with the Comets this season, Rodin has two assists.
The motivation behind this and Megna’s recall is likely the status of Canucks leading scorer Brock Boeser. He’s currently day-to-day with foot contusions after blocking a shot against the Washington Capitals last Thursday. The good news? Boeser should be able to go today.
