Canucks recall Adam Gaudette from Utica Comets

Adam Gaudette is back with the big club. The Canucks announced Sunday afternoon that they have recalled the 23-year-old forward from the Utica Comets. Gaudette was previously sent down to AHL Utica on Thursday.
The Gaudette recall follows the news today that forward Tyler Motte is out week-to-week with a lower-body injury after blocking a shot against the Capitals on Friday night.
Gaudette had a terrific preseason and made the Canucks out of training camp. He only played in three games to begin the season, however, managing one assist while averaging 11:31 of ice time.
The Comets have been exceptional this season, and Gaudette got right in on the action when he was sent down. Gaudette showcased his lethal shooting ability for his first goal back in the AHL against Hershey on Saturday.
The Comets (7-0-0) are the only undefeated team in the AHL and are leading the league in both goals scored (36) and goals against (13). The heavy competition for a bottom-six role on the Canucks had lead to a stacked Utica team with Reid Boucher, Nikolay Goldobin and Sven Baertschi carrying the offense up front.
It’s unclear if Gaudette will play against the Panthers on Monday, but you have to think if they elected to callup the youngster Gaudette instead of another option that he will play in place of the veteran Loui Eriksson on Monday. Eriksson played in the season opener against the Oilers, but has been in the press box for every game since.
We knew Gaudette would be back soon, but who knew it would be this quickly. The young forward made his 2019-20 Comets debut in a 5-1 win over Binghamton on Friday. Although he was held off the scoresheet, he got praise for his game from Utica coach Trent Cull, who also noted that Gaudette hadn’t played a game in about two weeks. Gaudette scored the following night against Hershey.
