Prior to their afternoon meeting with the Florida Panthers, the Canucks assigned centre Adam Gaudette to the Utica Comets:
This move was made to allow the Canucks to activate Josh Leivo from injured reserve and be available for this game. It appears that Leivo will in fact dress for the Canucks against the Panthers.
Gaudette scored in the January 10th game against the Coyotes, which was the final game before being re-assigned. In total, Gaudette has three goals and four assists in 32 games with the Canucks this season. He will head back to the Comets and likely slide back into a top-six centre role for them.
With Elias Pettersson expected to be back soon, another move will have to be made to make room for him on the roster. With that in mind, it was inevitable that Gaudette was going to be assigned to the Comets since he was the only player outside of Pettersson and Brock Boeser that is waiver exempt. So clearly the Canucks will have a decision on their hands in coming days to make room for EP.
Now, we just have to see if they can make more room for Gaudette as he had been playing well and appearing more confident with each passing game with the Canucks, although it was a short recall this time around.
