Canucks prospects have been named a bunch of things… in the good way

The regular season in the NHL is starting to wind down but some of the various junior leagues are already into their playoffs.

That means that we are starting to see a lot of year-end awards being handed out and Canucks prospects have been showing up quite regularly.

In case you missed any of them, here’s a quick crash course on what has happened thus far.

Canucks 2017 4th round pick made his move to the NCAA this season which followed him playing another year of high school hockey after being selected by the organization. His patience appears to have done him well as he was strong throughout the whole year. He posted a lot of points to begin his season but looked more comfortable in terms of three-zone play as the season went along.

For his efforts, Rathbone was named to the ECAC All-Rookie Team for the season after posting six goals and fifteen assists in thirty-one games for Harvard. The Crimson will take on Clarkson on Friday night in the ECAC Semi-Finals, with the winner playing for the title the following night. They could very well be named to the NCAA regionals after that and try to challenge for the NCAA title.

It’ll be interesting to see how Rathbone does next season with more confidence.

Quinn Hughes was named to the BIG10 conference First-Team All-Star team this week, which may have been the least shocking news of all of these announcements. He ended the season with five goals and twenty-eight assists in thirty-two games this season before signing his entry-level contract with the Canucks. William Lockwood was an honourable mention for those All-Star teams after a productive second half of the season.

Lockwood ended the year with sixteen goals and fifteen assists in thirty-four games. He set new NCAA career highs in goals, assists, and points.

Hughes was also named as a top 10 finalist for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award in the NCAA. He is unlikely to win the award, simply because other players around collegiate hockey had better seasons, but it’s still an impressive feat to see that he was among those named.

Keeping the positive news rolling, Canucks 2018 3rd round pick Tyler Madden was honoured as a member of the Hockey East All-Rookie Team this week:

It’s impressive that Madden was the only unanimous pick among the players selected and it shows how good of a season the centre had. At this moment, he has eleven goals and sixteen assists in thirty-three games with Northeastern. The Huskies will take on Boston University on Friday night in the Hockey East Semi-Finals and hopefully punch their ticket to the Hockey East finals.

After that, Northeastern will almost certainly be named to the NCAA regionals to extend their season even further.

Jett Woo continued to put up the points to close out the season and as a result, was named to the WHL Eastern Conference 2nd All-Star Team. His teammates Josh Brook (D) and Tristan Langan (F) were named to the 1st All-Star Team.

Woo ended the season with twelve goals and fifty-four assists in sixty-two games with the Warriors this season.

Lastly, Michael DiPietro and Cedrick Andree won the Dave Pinkney Trophy for the least goals against in the OHL. The Canucks prospect has struggled a bit since making the move over to the 67’s but keeping in mind that he finished first in goals-against-average in the OHL with his personal numbers, it should still be viewed as an impressive feat.

Led by Elias Pettersson, the Canucks prospect pool won a plethora of awards around the prospect world.

This season didn’t have the same pizzazz but all the players mentioned above had good seasons that fans should be excited about and they earned some good recognition over the past seven days.
