It’s been a great return to play for Vancouver Canucks prospect, Jonathan Lekkerimäki.
The 18-year-old scored in Thursday’s Allsvenskan playoff game, giving him three goals in the five playoff games that he has played in since coming back from a foot injury that ended his regular season.
Lekkerimäki finished the regular season with three goals in 29 games but has matched his goal total from the regular season in just five playoff games.
It’s safe to say that the kid is riding a nice hot streak right now.
It was a high ice time game for Lekkerimäki on Thursday. He played a season-high of 19:51 and had four shots on net. Lekkerimäki was second out of the forwards for ice time on his team and was effective throughout the game.
Lekkerimäki’s team Djurgården ended up losing the game 3-1 and now trails 2-1 in their semifinal series against Björklöven. Game four is scheduled for Saturday with game five on Monday.
We’ve said it enough, this has been an up-and-down year for Lekkerimäki but he is certainly running hot right now in his return to the play. This strong stretch of play is a great way for Lekkerimäki to put a bow on his season and be able to go into the summer with some confidence in himself. Lekkerimäki is all but a lock to be on Sweden’s World Junior team this coming December and should be in attendance for the Canucks development camp this summer.
We will continue to bring updates on Lekkerimäki’s playoff progress and hope to see him ripple more twine as the Allsvenskan playoffs roll along.
