Canucks prospect Jett Woo named the WHL Player of the Week

Down in the WHL, a Canucks prospect is turning some heads and has been rewarded with being named the WHL On the Run Player of the Week:
Jett Woo ended the week with one goal and six assists in three games which included a one goal and three assist performance in a 6-5 loss to the Saskatoon Blades on Wednesday night.
The Canucks 2018 2nd round pick is currently on an eight-game point streak that has seen him post three goals and ten assists during that timeframe.
Woo had started the season a little slowly, registering only one goal and one assist in the first eight games of his season but since October 27th, Woo has 21 points in his last sixteen games. This has vaulted him to 10th in PPG scoring amongst WHL defencemen and tied for 10th in total points among that same peer group.
Lost in all those point totals is the fact that Woo hasn’t been afraid to be physical as well, as evidenced by this hit on 2019 top prospect Kirby Dach this weekend:
When the Canucks selected Woo, there were some odd suggestions that maybe they went for a physical player instead of a high-end offensive defenceman. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. Woo is a new age throwback defenceman in the sense that he is willing to be that physical defensive player but isn’t afraid to join the rush to create offence. He moves the puck well and efficiently and possesses good skating abilities.
He has a good combination of skills that make it easy to project him as a two-way defenceman who can make opponents pay in their own zone.
Unfortuantely, Woo did not get an invite to the Team Canada’s evaluation camp but it appears he is showing why that is a mistake already. Woo is eligible to represent Canada at the event next season and if he continues to do what he has been doing recently, there is little doubt about him making that same camp next year.
