The Canucks continue to trim their training camp roster as we get closer to the start of the regular season.
According to Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston, Reid Boucher, Zane McIntyre and Ashton Sautner have been placed on waivers by the team.
Yesterday, the Canucks reassigned @Justin Bailey, @Brogan Rafferty, @Lukas Jasek, @Olli Juolevi, @Kole Lind and @Josh Teves to AHL Utica. All players cleared. You can read more about Juolevi being sent down here. Landon Ferraro was also released from his PTO.
There aren’t any surprises with the three players being sent down to AHL Utica today. Sautner has failed to make an impact this preseason, while Boucher seems to be just short of having what it takes to be an NHL-level player. The 26-year-old has a great shot, but there isn’t anything else that really sticks out about his game. It’s possible a different organization gives him a shot, but he’s already failed to carve out a role with three different teams (New Jersey, Nashville, Vancouver). Boucher put up 25 and 35 goals respectively in the last two years for the Comets and will be a welcomed addition for the AHL club.
@Jacob Markstrom and @Thatcher Demko form the goaltending tandem in the Canucks crease this season, so it was expected the netminder McIntyre would be reassigned. The Canucks signed the former Bruins netminder to a to a one-year, two-way deal on July 1st.
It’s going to be interesting to see which players end up making the opening night roster. Nikolay Goldobin certainly hasn’t done himself any favors with his underwhelming play this preseason. Coach Travis Green says he likes the way forwards Adam Gaudette and Tyler Motte are “trying to make the team”.
Gaudette scored twice in Saturday night’s preseason loss to the Kings, while Goldobin is yet to find the back of the net. Through three preseason games, Gaudette leads the team in goal-scoring with three tallies. Bo Horvat, Tanner Pearson, Brandon Sutter and Jake Virtanen have all scored twice.
