After finally seeing some time with a fully healthy team, the Canucks have quickly lost some players throughout the lineup.
Over the last 48 hours, we’ve been provided with a bit of clarification on some of the players out with injuries.
The first was Alex Edler:
The good news is that there were no fractures for the Canucks defenceman but he did suffer a concussion on the play against Philadelphia. Given that, he will be out of the lineup for at least a week and placed on IR by the Canucks to allow them to call up Guillaume Brisebois. Although he is out least a week, Iain MacIntyre with Sportsnet doesn’t expect him back that quickly
It’s a big loss for the Canucks defence that is now relying on 21-year-old Brisebois to be the 7th defenceman. They are one injury on the backend away from having to insert him into the lineup and then calling up another player from the farm.
As iMac mentions, Baertschi is also an unknown return. Ben Kuzma with the Province Sports tweeted the following later in the morning:
At this moment, we don’t have an idea of what exactly is ailing the forward but there is a legitimate concern for his well being. He battled back from a concussion earlier in the season and hopefully, he hasn’t suffered a setback. The Canucks have been leaning on Markus Granlund in his absence but that doesn’t provide the same offensive punch. Maybe it’s time to give someone like Zack MacEwen a shot in an offensive role.
Lastly, it’s reasonably good news for Demko as he is only expected to be out 7-10 days after suffering a minor knee sprain in practice. He was placed on injured reserve earlier today.
The Canucks play tonight, Saturday, Monday, and then face a back-to-back in California for February 13th and 14th. So we could see the Canucks ride Markstrom through this stretch or maybe they roll the dice and give Michael DiPietro a start against the struggling Ducks or Kings.  Personally, I love chaos, so give the kid a start in California.
