Do you want good news? Well, we’ve got some!
On Tuesday, Rick Dhaliwal of Donnie and Dhali — The Team offered health updates on both Thatcher Demko and Arturs Silovs, as both of the Vancouver Canucks’ NHL goaltenders are dealing with injuries.
Here’s what Dhaliwal had to say about Demko:
“The Canucks’ goaltending situation is the number one story going into training camp this month. I just wanted to give a bit of an update on the training camp goaltending situation. Some good news: I am hearing that Thatcher Demko is back skating and working out on the ice this week; that’s a very good sign. Many thought Demko would not be ready for training camp and preseason. His rehab this summer was a little bit slower than most wanted and expected, but Demko skating in the last few days has got to be a major boost to the Canucks and a sign of progress as well. So we’ll see how it goes with him at training camp, but he’s back on the ice. It’s major, major good news for the Canucks.”
On Silovs, who was held off of Latvia’s Olympic qualifying roster, Dhaliwal had this to say:
“Arturs Silovs is dealing with inflammation in his knee, although it’s not expected that it’s a serious injury. Silovs left Latvia today and he should arrive in Vancouver soon and get checked out by the Canucks doctors.”
It’s positive news for Canucks fans, who are hoping that Demko will miss as little time as possible, and that the playoff standout Arturs Silovs will be ready to go for training camp as well. Demko may still miss camp and some preseason games, but the fact he’s on the ice now is certainly a good sign, even if he’s not yet at 100%.
Canucks training camp kicks off in just over two weeks’ time on Thursday, September 19th from the South Okanagan Events Centre from Penticton, BC. Tickets for training camp go on sale tomorrow.
