The injury bug is hitting the Canucks early this year.
By our count, that’s roughly the 15th time we’ve written that sentence out in the past two weeks.
After making a trade for left-shot defenceman Riley Stillman during the first period of Friday night’s tilt with the Arizona Coyotes, general manager Patrik Allvin spoke with media during the second intermission of the game.
Allvin spoke about the trade that saw the Canucks give up Jason Dickinson and a second round pick to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for the 24-year-old left shot defenceman.
Also in that media availability, Allvin provided some additional injury updates on his club.
First, Allvin told reporters that defenceman Travis Dermott is out with a concussion. Dermott left last Tuesday’s practice after taking a bump and “feeling woozy” per Boudreau. There is no timetable for his return.
Afterwards, Allvin updated the status of forward Phil Di Giuseppe, revealing that he will be out 2-4 weeks with a lower-body injury.
Conor Garland left in the second period of the game and did not return, but Bruce Boudreau didn’t have an update on Garland’s status post game.
So far, these are the Canucks who are dealing with injuries before the season has even begun:
  • Brock Boeser (hand surgery)
  • Ilya Mikheyev (lower-body)
  • Tyler Myers (lower-body)
  • Travis Dermott (concussion)
  • Phil Di Giuseppe (lower-body)
  • Justin Dowling
  • Conor Garland (TBD)
